Why Dockery Basketball Academy?

The reason I started Dockery Basketball Academy was because when I got to Duke, in my eyes I was unprepared. I wasn’t a student of the game. I told myself that when my playing days were over I would try my best to prepare kids to be ready for the game on and off the court. Now I can give the kids the tools to be ready. I’ve played at all levels, and I believe that God gave me those opportunities so I could not only be a great basketball trainer but be able to pass along the knowledge that I have received from working with some of the top coaches, such as Coach K and Coach Pop to just name a couple. Dockery Basketball Academy is uniquely setup and qualified to work with all levels including youth, high-school, college and the pros.

Dean Sturm

Coach and Tournament Director

Coach Dean began his coaching career during his junior year of high school when he began coaching a high school girls spring league team in a small town outside of Corpus Christi, TX. He then moved on to help build a successful AAU program, the South Texas Falcons, that played throughout the region on the Adidas circuit.

The Falcons regional success led to competitions all over the state of Texas, as well as out of state tournaments. In his time with the team, Dean sent many girls on to play college basketball with various Power 5 offers.

In addition to his experience as an AAU coach, Dean has also had the privilege to work under his mentor Sean Dockery.  His work with Sean has led to invaluable experiences training professional athletes of all levels.

Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology from UTSA has been Coach Dean’s most recent and impressive accomplishment. Some of his additional coaching accolades and achievements include, but are not limited to:

  • 2017 Adidas Gauntlet Finale Champions
  • 2017 Super 64 3
  • 22 players went on to play in college

As an organization, we are incredibly lucky to have Dean on our team.
